At Truth Legal we are concerned about the rise in violence and verbal threats at work particularly in the public sector.

We have therefore made some Freedom of Information requests in order to discover whether there is in fact an increase in violence at work. The figures for Manchester City Council showed that there had been a 51% increase in violence at work meted out on employees at the council over the space of one year. The figures were not as high as for other authorities, but we are of the view that this is down to different reporting mechanisms.

By way of a contrast, a Freedom of Information request made by a union to Leeds City Council discovered that there had been 2,243 physical attacks on school support staff in Leeds schools between January 2009 and May 2011. During the same period 932 teachers had been assaulted at work.

If you have been injured in violence whilst working for a local authority, please contact Truth Legal for a confidential discussion about your options.
