Harrogate is building a reputation for its contemporary drive to become carbon neutral by 2030, and every facet of the community is involved in that, but it still retains a classic feel as the perfect place to enjoy an intoxicating mix of heritage, culture and homely ‘Yorkshire-ness’, whilst also journeying to the major tourist hotspots of North Yorkshire. Harrogate still retains a thriving independent spirit, but is brimming with unique, nationally-acclaimed attractions, such as Betty’s tea rooms, the Turkish baths and the famous local spa water.
This liberated spirit is evident in the Montpellier Quarter; ‘Harrogate’s best kept secret’ and a flourishing network of 80 independent bars, cafes, shops and galleries displaying Harrogate’s elegance, history and entrepreneurial endeavour. This complements the culture on display in the Royal Pump Room Museum and a collection of historic theatres and concert halls.
Central to the retail and cultural experiences we have the beautiful Valley Gardens, showcasing the style and beauty Harrogate is famous for and situated right in the middle of the town. But you are also just a short journey away from the sprawling glory of RHS Harlow Carr and the site of the Great Yorkshire Show, with cafés, delis, food halls and event spaces brimming with local pride and wholesome enterprise.
Harrogate offers a wide variety of fine dining experiences with hidden gems around every corner and well-known chain restaurants for a more familiar flavour. A recent growth of independent bars has seen craft ale, cocktails and artisan Gins hit the scene to offer every type of indulgence and wrap it with a local flavour.
Being on the cusp of the North Yorkshire Moors, the great outdoors are right there to be exploited with Brimham Rocks – the ‘hidden’ natural rock formation which offers a mass of adventure for the kids – and you are just a short drive from Coldstones Cut at Pateley Bridge; Yorkshire’s biggest and newest public artwork and which affords stunning views over the Nidderdale Valley. You are also within easy distance of the very best of Yorkshire’s rich heritage in places such as Skipton, Ilkley, Bolton Abbey and Wetherby.
Harrogate is a friendly and cultured spa town famous for its Georgian architecture and a busy conference and events industry. It was recently voted the Happiest Place to Live in Britain, and with a 75,000 population, beautiful gardens and well-appointed streets, that happiness radiates from its residents to the many tourists that visit. There is much local pride in the cosmopolitan class and old-fashioned charm of Harrogate that is unmistakably ‘Yorkshire’, and which makes Truth Legal very proud to call this our home.
We were delighted to see The Times voted Harrogate as the best place in the UK to work from home in October 2020. We would have to agree! Even during challenging times, our little local idyll is a lovely place to be.
