If you are attacked at work by a customer, and you have sustained an injury, then you are able to bring three compensation claims:
1, against your employer;
2, against your attacker;
3, to the Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority (CICA).
When suing your employer when you have been attacked by a customer, in order to win the claim, you ideally need to show that the injury to you was predictable. For example, if the customer is known to be violent and yet your employer has done nothing to reduce the risk of the customer attacking you, then your compensation claim is likely to be successful. If, say, you are working in a bookies and your customers can be violent, your employer should consider introducing a protective screen.
