Coles Solicitors, also known as Kingly Solicitors, has been a long-established name in Yorkshire. With branches across the region including Harrogate, Ripon, Northallerton and York, the firm offered a full suite of legal services for both individuals and businesses. In 2019, Coles was acquired by Kingly Solicitors.

Last month, it was announced by the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) that Kingly Solicitors had been shut down by the SRA after an intervention found that the firm may not had complied with one or more of the terms of its licence.

The news of the closure of Kingly Solicitors – which was better known as Coles Solicitors – was widely reported, with many local publications picking up on this.

The York Press and The Northern Echo covered the story in detail, highlighting the SRA intervention and the notice they issued on 12^th August 2020 which said that there was “reason to suspect dishonesty” by one of the managers of the firm and that they had to intervene because of a failure to comply with the SRA rules.

The official notice on the SRA website states here:

“The firm has not complied with one or more of the terms of its licence (paragraph 1(2)(a) of Schedule 14 to Legal Services Act 2007); and

There is reason to suspect dishonesty by Nurul Miah as a manager of the firm in connection with the firm’s business, or any trust of which the firm is or was a trustee or any trust of which Nurul Miah is or was a trustee in his capacity as a manager (paragraph 1(2)(d) of Schedule 14 to the Legal Services Act 2007).”
